Writer, Composer and Recording Artist who happens to be Deaf-Blind
Welcome to Expressong!
Expressong is the place where I plan to express myself in words and music. I hope to do a second album, (maybe instrumental) as well as a book about life growing up on the wild and crazy V-V ranch, as it was in the 1970’s. I’ll be writing here along the way, about those topics, and a bit about Stickler’s Syndrome and Deaf-Blindness too.
so subscribe below and come along with me for this improbable ride! We’ll see how far I get, and I think we will have a lot of fun along the way. One day at at a time.
My goal is to encourage, bring hope and a lot of laughs too!
I know that you will also encourage me, and others too. Please do use the comments section at the bottom of articles, as well as the contact form and/or my Facebook page.
Growing up on the largest “deeded”, (privately owned) ranch in Canada was quite an experience for a young boy. Not only did I have plenty of room to roam with my horse and dirt bike, I also had up to 30 “big brothers” at any given time.
I started playing guitar at age 9, but it was not until one of the old cowboys gave me his electric guitar and amp about a year later that I was totally captivated as big, lush, warm tones would proceed from that old National amp.
From other guys I learned how to play blues, country and even a little bit of rock ‘n roll.
I was born legally blind, and then, in my 20’s – just days before I was to record an album with my friends, I lost most of my hearing due to Stickler’s Syndrome.
I remember telling God that even if I went totally deaf, I would serve Him anyway.
Due to multiple failed eye operations and an undetected retina detachment, my eyesight has been quickly deteriorating, as it has gone from 20/200 to where it is just now, I can’t even count your fingers. If the lighting is good, I might see your hand move.
50 years after I first picked up a guitar, this crazy opportunity arose to record these songs.
“But how did you do that?”, people ask.
Those stories are coming…
Really, the short answer is, I can honestly attribute this to nothing less than a gift from God, and a little bit of help from my friends.
Call it what you like.
Some call it a miracle.
Listen to my album right now. (Featuring my special guest vocalists. See full credits.)
lots of stories and music to come!
I hope to complete a second instrumental album and then write a book. I’ll write some stories along the way. Let’see how far I get… one day at a time.
